Loyalty isn't about giving customers points; it's about constantly giving them a reason to choose you again. With this in mind, manage your customers' purchasing, engagement and loyalty behavior in a single program. Offer points, tiers, coupons and rewards to your B2B and B2C customers with the same experience in store, on the web and on mobile.
Give customers a reason to come back. Turn every purchase into the next step in your relationship with the customer. Let customers earn points based on purchase amount, product, category, channel or rules you define, and redeem the value they have earned on their next purchases. Rewards then become more than a discount: a mechanism that brings customers back to your brand.
Let customers carry the value they've earned with them. Bring points, coupons, entitlements and rewards together in the customer's digital wallet. Customers can see the benefits assigned to them at any time and use them in any eligible channel. A reward earned in store can be used on the web, and a coupon earned online can be used in store.
Make loyalty more engaging. Make the loyalty experience more active with challenges, goals, badges, progress levels or surprise rewards. The point isn't to make customers play games; it's to create a sense of progress, discovery and achievement within the program so customers engage with the brand more often. Gamification mechanics can help members take a more active part in the program and interact with the loyalty experience more frequently.
Handing out points isn't enough; measure the results. Track not how many people joined the program, but how the program changes customer behavior. Measure the real impact of your loyalty program with indicators such as active member rate, point earning and redemption rates, repeat purchases, visit frequency, average spend, tier movements and customer lifetime value. In modern loyalty programs, success should be measured not only by member counts or points issued, but by business outcomes such as repeat preference, additional spend and customer lifetime value.
Grow loyalty over time. Not every customer is at the same level of relationship. Move members up to different tiers based on their purchases, the points they earn or criteria you define. Offer tier-specific benefits, rewards or privileges to give customers something to progress toward within the program.
Don't give every customer the same reward. Real loyalty starts with understanding not just who customers are, but what they do and what they're interested in. Segment members by purchase frequency, spend, product preferences, visit behavior or customer value, and offer each group its own loyalty setup. Personalization matters here. According to recent research, 78% of consumers are more likely to buy again when they receive a personalized experience.
To the customer, your store, website and app are not different companies. Manage points, tiers, coupons and rewards on the same customer account across every touchpoint. Wherever customers shop, the value they have earned, their membership tier and their benefits carry on from where they left off.
Let it work together with CRM, Campaign and Marketing. Don't turn your loyalty program into a separate customer database. Bring the customer profile in CRM, the campaign rules in Campaign, the behavior in Marketing and the purchase data in Commerce together with Loyalty on the same customer. Loyalty then becomes more than a points engine and part of the entire customer lifecycle. A modern approach to loyalty requires the loyalty system to cover the whole customer lifecycle, from onboarding to ongoing engagement and from service to community.
Recognize and reward customers without a card. Don't make the loyalty experience depend on physical cards or on customers reciting their phone number at checkout. Customers identify themselves with a QR code; the purchase, points earned and membership details are credited to their account instantly. In-store interactions are linked to the digital customer profile as well.
Don't tie loyalty only to the moment of purchase. Customers can be rewarded not only when they buy, but also when they engage meaningfully with your brand. Make behaviors such as completing sign-up, using the app, taking part in surveys, inviting friends, carrying out a specific action or completing brand challenges part of your loyalty program. Recent loyalty research also indicates that programs need to focus more on customer engagement beyond purchases.
Reward B2B relationships as well as B2C. Loyalty isn't only for end consumers. Create separate earning, tier and reward models for dealers, pharmacies, tradespeople, service points, points of sale and other business partners. Run B2B and B2C programs on the same technology, with independent rules. B2B loyalty programs are playing an increasingly strategic role in building stronger partner relationships, increasing commitment and supporting sustainable growth.
